Katarina

Katarina “Kat” Bennicoff Yundt, MS, LCAT, BC-DMT, provides trauma-informed psychotherapy for adults and couples in Brooklyn and throughout New York State via telehealth. Her practice, Somageist Psychotherapy, specializes in complex trauma, PTSD, anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, people pleasing, and the relational patterns that can develop in response to difficult or overwhelming experiences.

Kat works particularly well with thoughtful, creative, high-achieving, and neurodivergent adults who may look capable and high-functioning on the outside while experiencing chronic anxiety, hypervigilance, overthinking, emotional overwhelm, shutdown, exhaustion, or disconnection from themselves. Many clients have learned to anticipate other people’s needs, stay in control, be dependable, or minimize their own needs in order to cope.

Her trauma-informed approach integrates talk therapy with somatic and experiential practices, including body awareness, Dance/Movement Therapy, parts work, mindfulness, and compassion-based approaches. Therapy may involve noticing physical sensations, exploring patterns of activation or shutdown, making space for emotions, and developing greater awareness of the connections between the body, nervous system, relationships, and lived experience. Movement can be subtle or active, and no dance experience is required.

Rather than focusing only on symptoms or asking clients to simply think their way through difficult experiences, Kat helps clients understand the patterns that developed to help them cope and explore new ways of relating to themselves, their bodies, and their relationships. Her work supports greater self-trust, flexibility, agency, and connection while honoring each client's individual history, identity, and pace.

Kat is a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist and Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist with a master's degree in Dance/Movement Therapy from Pratt Institute. She brings a relational, collaborative, and compassionate approach to trauma therapy, integrating her training in somatic and creative approaches with evidence-informed psychotherapy.

I believe therapy should be accessible. I partner with Mentaya to simplify out-of-network reimbursement and offer a limited number of sliding scale spots for clients with financial need. If cost is a concern, I'd be happy to explore options that help make therapy more accessible.
