Clinical Panel
On November 12, NYCATT hosted an afternoon of community and learning centered around a panel discussion of a client experiencing C-PTSD symptoms.
The afternoon began with an opportunity to connect with old friends, meet new colleagues, and gather healthy and delicious snacks.
Next, 6 distinguished therapists, each of whom represented a different therapeutic modality used in the treatment of trauma, gave a short presentation of their method. We were treated to presentations by Nancy Napier for SE, Dolores Mosquera for EMDR, Chris Ratte for IFS, Gregg Carson for CT, Eileen Russell for AEDP and Lana Epstein for SP.
Following the overview of these therapies, Yael Shayne, LCSW, PLLC presented the case of a traumatized client to the panelists, who then discussed various treatment possibilities from the perspective of their varied modalities. Amy
Gladstone, our Moderator, peppered the discussion with in-depth questions and Yaelle Yoran, our timekeeper, made sure that everyone had an opportunity to speak.
The discussion was engaging both in highlighting the differences between these modalities and in pointing out the ways in which these various therapies overlap and are all working toward the goal of changing the emotional valance of memory. The attendance to this event was high and the feedback extremely positive.
We at NYCATT can’t thank our panelists enough for the thought and care they put into making this day the huge success that it was.
Dolores Mosquera Master Class
On November 13, Dolores Mosquera, the Director of a clinic in Coruna, Spain specializing in the treatment of Trauma and Dissociative Disorders, led a training in using her Progressive Approach to treat Dissociative clients with EMDR. The day was chock full of useful information and illustrated by videos of Dolores’ work with highly traumatized clients.
Dolores taught us once again why she is in such demand as a master clinician and trainer. She has promised to come back again next year to teach a workshop on working with Personality Disorders, and we will post the date of that workshop as soon as it is confirmed. Although Dolores is an EMDR trainer, her clinical insight, clarity and wisdom are highly applicable whether or not you are trained in EMDR.
