Course Description
In this session we will address the intersection of the body and EMDR in trauma treatment. EMDR and Somatic psychotherapy are two premier approaches for the treatment of traumatic distress. Since its inception, EMDR has included the body as part of the standard protocol and practitioners are invited to return to the body often throughout the processing. However, EMDR therapists do not often have a robust understanding of the wisdom of the body and may neglect bringing in more fully the body into EMDR treatment thus limiting their inquiry of the body to cursory questions about sensations. Somatic psychotherapy offers a plethora of interventions for tapping into the wisdom of the body in the treatment of trauma that can easily and seamlessly be integrated into EMDR treatment.
